Hi everyone, CykaDev here! I am aware that it must be a tad surprising to get a sudden announcement like this, but I feel like after this year of silence (more than a year, actually) we should get things moving again. First off, I wanted to apologize for just going missing for such a long time. My life situation has evolved a lot (not in a bad way, of course!) and I’ve been taking more time to invest in my skills, professional and personal life. But where does that leave us with CykaDev? During the past year, I’ve never stopped thinking about it. And with that in mind, I wanted to announce a few things today. For starters, CykaDev is getting a little identity update, on multiple levels: – The current logo was made by a high school (high school!) friend of mine, and while it’ll forever be part of our history, I felt like we could work with a more modern logo. Thus, you can find our new logo right below this announcement (in four different colors, just to see what it looks like depending on the context). It’s a more minimalistic approach, but honestly, I love it. – The Discord server is, let’s face it, dead. But we do have a pretty good amount of people still around, and I wanted to thank you all for that. We will try to revamp the server in the near future in order to make it a less DDLC-focused server. Stay tuned for updates, but I hope we’ll manage to make it a more active and interesting space for you all! – The website we currently have is getting really old and slow. The whole point of it was to distribute our content easily, and now it’s just bloated with useless accounts, comments and posts that don’t really make sense for our activity. I’m going to work on a new, simpler and faster version of the website (that will probably keep the same design, which hasn’t really aged that bad). This will probably be in the near future too, so I’ll keep you all updated.

Then, I wanted to talk about Seikatsu. If I look at my notes from 2019, it says I’m supposed to be rich and famous by now. It seems like my calculations were wrong. On a more serious note, Seikatsu was (is!) a very ambitious project. While I did successfully write the entire story, it’s a very, very big workload for the people working with me (Sakura and Nathan) and as we all grew older, it has become very hard to just… keep going. Seikatsu isn’t dead at all. It’s still my baby, I still spent a major part of my student years working on it, and I still have multiple backups of it. However, I had to make up my mind and face the truth: I just cannot finish this project alone, and not right now. But I don’t want to stop making games. I don’t want to stop working on CykaDev and making this community that I cherish a lot grow. So I decided that I’m going to try and work on smaller scale projects. As of now, I don’t have a precise idea of what I want to work on: but I do know that I am going to start shortly. I’m not only going to stick to Visual Novels this time: I’d like to expand to more genres, while still keeping my goals in reach. That could be an RPG (Corpse Party, anyone?), 2D game (Stardew Valley is a big inspiration)… The thing is I just want to create content people can enjoy. That’s all I’ve ever wanted when I created this studio 🙂

The last thing I wanted to announce probably won’t be that interesting to most of you, but I still wanted to make it clear. A few years ago, I started using CykaDev not only as a game development studio, but also as a software development company. It gave me opportunities to work with big clients and make money which actually really helped when I needed to keep the company going (because in case you don’t know, CykaDev is still a registered company). So as soon as the new website rolls out, I am probably going to create another subdomain (soft.cykadev.com?) which will be dedicated to software development as a whole. That does mean my activity will be split between normal software development AND videogame creation. Better than a year of silence, though!

Anyway, that’s all I had to say today. I hope a brighter future awaits us, and I’m excited about the changes that are coming. I wish you a very good evening and I love you all! ❤️
